Fifth-Ranked Bombers Blank Muhlenberg 8-0

Mel Chinigo went 2-2 with a double and two RBI against Muhlenberg

Kissimmee, Fla. -- Sophomore Carly Myers (Claremont Secondary/Victoria, British Columbia) and freshman Allie Markovits (Middletown/Middletown) combined to give up just two hits as #5 Ithaca defeated Muhlenberg (3-4) 8-0 in five innings.

Junior Hannah Shalett (Shepaug Valley/Bridgewater, Conn.) single to lead off the bottom of the first and later scored, along with senior Leigh Bonkowski (The Williams School/Mystic, Conn.), on a two-run double from junior Mel Chinigo (Norwich Free Academy/Norwich, Conn.), putting the Bombers (5-1) ahead to stay. With that run scored Bonkowski moved past Kristin Furdon for third on the Bombers' all-time list with 113 career runs scored.

Chinigo was two-for-two in the game with two-RBI and a run scored. Senior Stacey Bartels (Skyview/Vancouver, Wash.) was also two-for-two and drove in three runs, including a two-RBI single in the bottom of the third.

Myers allowed just one hit and recorded two strikeouts in four innings pitched, while Markovits allowed just one hit with one strikeout in the fifth inning.

The Bombers will next face Baldwin-Wallace and Maryville on Thursday, March 9.
